Space Requirements
To help you plan, a good basic rule of thumb is that a 48″ round table and four chairs will need a 10′ x 10′ space while it’s being used. You can fit approximately one person for each 12″ length of diameter of the table. A 48″ round table is good for four people. A 72″ long oval or rectangular table seats six comfortably. Leave room for chairs to be pulled out and to walk behind them. Just remember chairs need to be pulled out for guests to be seated. You also want room for folks to walk past those who are seated. About 3 feet from the edge of the table is usually enough.
If you don’t want to dine outside, maybe seating is what you need. Figure on chairs being about 30″ wide, loveseats 50″, and sofas around 75″.
