Bioslime II – Treatment for BAQUACIL
Pink Slime, Clear Slime, White Water Mold, Gray Water Mold
For Baquacil only. See Bioslime I for treatments for chlorine and bromine. Bioguard also has a different treatment that they have asked us to give you for Softswim that includes Bioguard Assist. The complete directions are on the back of that label.
The Cheap, Easy Treatment that probably won’t work and likely won’t work for long: Double-shock your pool with Baquacil Oxidizer at the rate of 2 gallons per 10,000 gallons of pool water: _____________________________ If that does not work, or if it does work, but the problem comes back, give up and follow the rest of the treatment.
1. Vacuum or scoop all debris from the pool bottom. Clean skimmer and filter baskets. If the pool is a little cloudy, add a clarifier or filter aid. If water is very cloudy (so that you can’t see the bottom of the shallow end) floc the pool. Ask us for directions, and see our Pool Tips for Cloudy Water. If you have a solar heater, make sure it’s operating so that the chemicals treat the water inside the heater.
2. Optional: Balance water to a Langlier Saturation Index of -0.3 to +0.3, taking particular care that the calcium level is normal to high. If it seems that this step will cause undue delay, balance at the end of the process. Low calcium levels are associated with outbreaks of bioslime.
3. Optional: Add a normal maintenance dosage of Baquacil Metal Control: _______________________________ (at one bottle per 10,000 gallons). This is to protect the pool from unusual staining caused by minerals reacting with possible high shock levels. It is very important to do so if you have a white liner or white plaster. It is recommended to do this with any pool, because even low assorted metal counts can feed bioslimes and eat up shock levels.
4. Chemically clean the filter with Baquacil Filter Cleaner (DE/Cartridge or Sand) if it has not been done in the past month. Completely change the sand if it has not been done in the past two years. Top-up sanitizer (to 50 ppm) plus algaecide, or any other needed chemicals.
Optional Steps for a severe out break, especially on a pool already on CDX.
5A. Add __________ pounds (at 2 lbs/10,000 gallons) of Baquacil Line Clean (potassium monopersulphate) through the skimmer(s) with the filter running.
5B. Optional: Continue running the filter for fifteen minutes to clear out the monopersulphate, then add ___________________ Baquacil Flocculant to the skimmer according to the label directions. It will probably be 8 to 12 ounces for a sand or cartridge filters, and 1 to 2 ounces for DE filters, depending on the size of the filter.
5C. Filter continuously for 24 – 48 hours.
5D. Backwash, rinse or drain the filter to remove the floc from the filter. Then go to Step 6.
6A. With the filter running, add a normal dose of Baquacil Oxidizer _________________________ (at 1 gallon per 10,000 gallons). For a severe problem, make it a double dose of oxidizer _________________________ (at 2 gallons/10,000 gallons). NOTE: You should pour this right into the water directly in front of the skimmer but not into the skimmer. Continue running the filter.
6B. Optional: However, if you have a really bad case, and if you want to do a really good job, you can hire a professional to shock through the system. DO NOT do this yourself; it is very DANGEROUS. They will pour the shock directly into the through-wall skimmer and any other suction outlets. They will watch the hair and lint pot (directly in front of the motor). If the pot fills with air (it will be because the shock is oxidizing slime in the hoses, creating oxygen), they will stop shocking until the pot refills with water. If the pump loses its prime, they won’t open the pot cover. They could burn their hands with the shock still in the lines. Then, continue running the filter.
7. Immediately after, add ____________ pints of Baquacil CDX (at 4 pints per 10,000 gallons of pool water) directly into the skimmer with the filter still running.
8. Optional (for bad cases): Immediately brush all surfaces of the pool, in order to break up any slime coating, and put the organisms into contact with the poison (the Oxidizer and CDX) that you just put into the pool. Pay special attention to dark recessed places in your pool where water does not normally circulate well enough to kill things: under the ladder steps, behind the light, under flaps and folds in the liner, inside the throat of the skimmer, under the skimmer weir (the flapping door), behind the screw that holds in the return eyeballs, the edges of any faceplates that hold the skimmer, lights or the stairs, etc. Remove the skimmer door (weir) and soak it (or at least the foam part) for an hour in a mixture of one quart of laundry bleach and two gallons of tap water. Rinse it off well before reinstalling. Clean out the well of the pool light. Use Baquacil Surface Cleaner around the waterline, skimmer, hair and lint baskets, etc.
9. Filter 24 hours a day until the pool is back to normal. Brush and vacuum regularly to remove dead bacteria, slime or mold. If the water does not substantially clear in 4 to 6 days, ask us for a water clarity treatment, or look for a solution in the Pool Tips for Cloudy Water.
10. Keep on the CDX system for the rest of the summer, by adding maintenance doses of CDX and oxidizer weekly. Test weekly with Baquacil 4-way test strips. With the filter running, add one quarter of the normal monthly dose of oxidizer, directly in front of the skimmer. Do not add it directly into the skimmer; that is DANGEROUS. Add ____________ quarts of Oxidizer, (at one quart per 10,000 gallons of pool water). Immediately after, add ____________ pints of CDX (at one pint per 10,000 gallons of pool water), directly into the skimmer.
11. If the Oxidizer level on your weekly tests ever shows less than 20 ppm or “Add”, it may be an indication that you are about to have a relapse. Shock with an initial dose of Oxidizer (1 gallon/10,000 gallons). If your results show this two weeks in a row, try that again. If your results are below 20 ppm of Oxidizer or “Add” for three weeks in a row, repeat steps 1 to 10 above or call us for advice. We have also had some success with Ultra Start-Up and Ultra Oxidizer Increaser tablets.
12. Try to keep on top of your chemicals. Bioslimes seem to develop fastest when people let the levels of sanitizer and oxidizer drop for a couple of weeks.

We write Pool Tips™ for the exclusive use of our own local customers. They are meant as a summary of general information, to be discussed in our store, with our staff, to determine which items are best for specific pools. Pool Tips™ are a trademark of Gull Group, Inc. All rights reserved.
Our suggestions assume that you have given us a proper description of your pool’s size, history and symptoms. Sometimes we can figure it out, sometimes we can’t. Your doctor has years more training, far better diagnostic tools, and makes way more money—and sometimes he or she gets it wrong, too.
- Read all labels carefully, and only use chemicals exactly as described on the label. Never mix chemicals together outside of the pool. Some of them can cause a fire or explosion.
- Do Not follow any advice or suggestions here without coming into the store, customizing them to your specifics, and receiving them in writing.
- Do Not print these out or reproduce for any purpose whatever. They are all copyrighted, and we take our copyrights very seriously.
- Don’t Blame Us for anything. It’s free advice, and worth the price paid. We’re trying to help, but pools are complex, and chemicals and electricity are dangerous.
- Our Best Advice: Go find a local pool dealer who knows what they are doing, become a steady customer, and give them a chance to learn about you and your pool. Pick a brand, pick a store, and stay with them.
