Which Pool Table is Right for You?

Feb. 72019

If you have space, adding a game room to your home is a great way to create memories with your friends and family without forking over a lot of money for activities. Especially with the colder weather fast approaching, you can get a lot of use out of a game room in your home. If you’re planning on keeping it classic, a pool table is a must-have. Read on to learn all you need to know about the pool tables we have here at Seasonal Stores.

The Legs

When considering what type of furniture to buy, you probably think the overall material and style, but not necessarily the components. Pool tables are unique because the structure of the legs matters and will affect the overall structure of the table. The tables themselves are traditionally made of heavier materials, so the legs must be strong enough to hold them up! Also, your friends and family will inevitably lean, or even sit, on the table to make their shot. “Perfect” legs are made of one solid piece of wood, while “industry standard” models attach to the table using anchor systems.

Cloth or Felt

The soft surface of the pool table is typically made from a wool and nylon blend and often coated in Teflon. Many buyers have two main concerns about the playing surface: durability and its impact on the ball. To assess the strength, you need to know the weight of the cloth. The ideal weight is between 18 and 22 ounces per yard. This is thick enough to withstand heavy use but won’t impede play.

If you’re worried about thicker felt impacting performance, choosing worsted cloth might be the best choice for your pool table. It’s made from wool fibers that are combed before they are spun.

Here at Seasonal Specialty Stores, we have pool tables to match every style you could imagine. Visit our store on Route 101A in Amherst to browse our inventory!
